What Traditional Assessment
Does Not Measure

Schools around the world have become highly effective at measuring academic outcomes — marks, grades, rankings, and examination performance. However, these systems rarely measure the internal processes that produce those outcomes.

Students often know what grade they received but rarely understand why they performed that way, how they learn best, or how they can improve sustainably.

My Learning Ladder (MLL) is an ethnographically grounded, inductive, Design-Based Mixed-Methods assessment innovation that helps schools make learning visible beyond marks.

Rather than replacing academic rigour, MLL strengthens it by introducing a parallel assessment architecture that captures the internal drivers of learning alongside traditional performance measures.

MLL transforms assessment from a learner reporting system into a learner-development system.

What MLL Enables

  • Understand not only what a learner achieved, but why
  • Make psychological drivers of performance visible
  • Support longitudinal learner growth tracking
  • Embed wellbeing into assessment architecture
  • Generate measurable evidence of development
  • Enable evidence-based intervention planning
  • Replace rank-based comparison with growth-based progression

Our Mission and Vision

Our Mission

To make learning visible beyond marks by transforming assessment into a system that develops confident, reflective, resilient, and self-directed learners while preserving academic rigour and measurable excellence. To cultivate curiosity, reflection, resilience, adaptability, confidence, agency, and self-regulation — empowering every learner to become the author of their own growth.

Our Vision

A world where no learner is defined by a grade, but empowered by understanding how they learn, grow, and thrive. We envision a future where every learner understands not only what they achieve, but how they learn, why they succeed, how they overcome challenges, and how they continuously grow. Marks remain important — but they no longer define identity.

Formative Assessment System

Daily micro-reflections measured through Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS) in a learner-friendly Likert format — grounding self-evaluation in observable behaviours, not vague feelings.

Seven Core Learning Quotients

CQ

Curiosity Quotient

Measures the learner's willingness to inquire, explore, and ask questions.

BQ

Belief Quotient

Measures self-efficacy and confidence in learning.

RQ

Reflexivity Quotient

Measures awareness of thinking patterns and decision-making processes.

AQ

Adaptability Quotient

Measures the ability to modify strategies when faced with challenge.

MQ

Meaning Quotient

Measures personal relevance and connection to learning.

ResQ

Resilience Quotient

Measures persistence and recovery through difficulty.

ERQ

Emotional Regulation Quotient

Measures emotional steadiness under academic pressure.

Four Learner
Development Indices

The Learning Positioning Ladder contextualises examination outcomes by explaining the psychological and behavioural conditions that surround achievement.

PCAI

Peer Comparison Anxiety Index

Measures how strongly comparison with others affects confidence, motivation, and learning behaviour.

Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)
SPCI

Self-Perceived Control Index

Measures how much control learners believe they have over their learning behaviours, effort, and outcomes.

Behaviourally Anchored Likert Scale
SLL-CI

Self-Learning Ladder Confidence Index

Measures confidence built through evidence of learning rather than marks alone.

Behaviourally Anchored Likert Scale
SR-GRI

Self-Referenced Growth Rate Index

Measures improvement against a learner's own previous performance.

Assessment That Develops,
Not Just Reports

📊

Most assessment systems...

Measure performance alone. MLL measures both performance and the processes that produce performance.

🧠

Most wellbeing programmes...

Operate parallel to learning. MLL embeds wellbeing directly into the architecture of assessment.

🚀

Most report cards ask...

"What score did the learner get?" MLL additionally answers: "Why — and how can they improve?"

Supporting UN Sustainable
Development Goals

MLL creates an assessment ecosystem where academic excellence and learner wellbeing reinforce one another rather than compete.

4

Quality Education

Promote inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

3

Good Health & Well-being

Support learner wellbeing, confidence, and positive development outcomes.

10

Reduced Inequalities

Enable fairer assessment systems and growth-based learner progression.

Frequently Asked

Everything you need to know about My Learning Ladder.

No. MLL runs alongside traditional assessment systems, not instead of them. It adds a parallel architecture that measures the internal processes behind performance.

MLL is curriculum-agnostic and works across IB, Cambridge, CBSE, ICSE, national and international curricula.
